November 29: Getting to the bottom of it all. We are a curious lot and want to know why things happen, how they happen, as soon as they happen. Turn on any television station or read story when a major event goes wrong and the first question usually asked is ‘who’s to blame?’ What happened? Why? And whose fault is it? November 29, 1963, just a week after the assassination of John Kennedy, new President Lyndon Johnson established a commission, to investigate what happened that day in Dallas. Headed by Supreme Court Chief Justice Earl Warren, the panel consisted of seven members, a general counsel and several assistants and staff. It spent 10 months delving deep into the happenings of Kennedy’s assassination, the people involved and how their lives came together a week earlier. In 10 months, they immersed themselves in learning happenings and circumstances. When the commission released its findings, there, immediately, was an outcry of a cover-up of a cover-up. Later panels were established to study the study. Findings, 50 years later, remain subject of debate. During Jesus Christ’s time on earth, he established a group of apostles. They were to study, delving deep into his life and the happenings around him. After immersing themselves in following him, they became apostles in spreading their findings after his death. When, 2,000 years later, people debate the documentation of Jesus’ time on earth, are you a disciple? “… the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.” (Acts 1: 2-3)
