November 30, 1864, The Battle of Franklin (pt.2)- At 4pm from Winstead Hill, General Hood launches a full frontal attack on the Union positions. The charging Confederates fought well and overran forward Yankee earthworks. They almost breakthrough, but they suffer high casualties in the fighting. Union troops reinforce their secondary defensive lines and push back. The fighting lasted beyond daylight. Spectacular fire-fights continue up and down the Franklin battle lines. The Rebel offensive bogs down as more casualties mount. They had lost 6 Generals killed in battle. Pat Cleburne, SR Gist, HB Granbury, John Adams and OF Strahl all fell. General John C. Carter would die from his wounds.
