November 8, 1960 A Letter from Arni Richter written to the Door County Advocate ISLAND GLAD TO HELP We returned home, to our Island, after a rather busy but interesting sojourn in Sturgeon Bay. We, the Washington Island ferry line and crew wish to express our gratitude to the people of Door County for their many kindnesses, words of praise, and warm hospitality shown us during the times our boats were supplying the ferry service while the bridge was disabled. Let me add that we were only too happy to be able to help during this emergency. There have been many instances when we Islanders have called Help and received a quick response from you, our neighbors across the Door. We havent forgotten the many occasions when the doctors of the peninsula have responded to our emergency calls; nor have we forgotten when one of the ferries went aground at Monument Shoal. The quick response of the Sturgeon Bay Canal Coast Guard and the Sturgeon Bay Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company ere responsible for saving the boat and cargo. There have been many other instances too numerous to mention throughout the years. Please note that if you are missing your boat rides, come up and see us some time!* Arni Richter
