November Post Day #4b Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (11/04/2014) “If it hurts, it’s working” My grandpa Tom used to say that a lot, about the little things, like adding mercurochrome to a cut and having it sting. It works for the big things, though, like heart aches and soul searching and taxes and voting lines and CT scan results and slow-moving lab draws and chemo… I had a great visit with my oncologist Dr. B. and his assistant E, today. Here’s the scoop: I weigh 108 with my boots and tights on! I knew my tumor markers (CA19-9) were going down (1120 to 80) so I thought I might get encouraging news… I was still nervous about the CT scan results…I did get a kudos from the radiology tech guy—I dressed right, almost (I did have to take off my purple sweater—plastic buttons but metallic paint, too.) The chemo is working and burning the heck out of my hair follicles, playing havoc on my gum line, and zapping the tumor on my adrenal glands to oblivion. I will do six more rounds of chemo for good measure. Bring it on! If it hurts and it’s working, it’s worth it… being Kt.
