November was a particularly active month for UNLV Anthropology. In addition to the many papers presented at conferences, faculty members participated in several prestigious conferences and seminars. Dr. Bill Jankowiak participated in a by-invitation-only conference on Chinese masculinity at the University of Hong Kong. The papers presented will be revised for publication in an edited book to be published by University of Hong Kong Press. Dr. Levent Atici was invited to the Oriental Institute of the University of Chicago to lead a workshop on Orienting Data in a Digital World and to give a talk titled Rethinking Ancient Urban Food Provisioning Systems in Light of Textual Evidence from Kanesh. The events were co-organized and co-hosted by the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, the Department of Anthropology, and the Council on Advanced Studies at the University of Chicago. Dr. Karen Harry spent three days at the Amerind Foundation in Dragoon, Arizona where she attended a seminar on “Social Identity in Frontier Communities,” which she co-organized with Sarah Herr. This seminar will lead to an edited volume to be published by the University Press of Colorado.
