November, you are kicking my butt!!! Everything is sailing along perfectly for Drowning Summer to be out Thanksgiving weekend, so that is GREAT NEWS. I am SO HAPPY I have kick-ass beta readers to help me polish and shine this story up before kicking it out the door. *WOO* I have many more irons in the fire, but then I get derailed by things like this morning -- coming out in the 22-degree weather to take Daughter #2 to school, and I see my escaped neighbors puppy get hit by a car. AWESOME SO Ive spent the day getting my neighbor and the dog to the vet, waiting at the vet, figuring out how much I can spend on someone elses dog because this family is P-O-O-R with a capital P-O-O-R, but I could not NOT help. I just couldnt. I knew Odin (the puppy) had not been physically run over -- it was more like the car skidded to a stop but Odin got clipped and he rolled away, then ran off. UGH After the initial consultation, I told the vet to do Xrays to see if he had internal injuries (because he had no external injuries, which is awesome... no broken bones, no abrasions, etc.), but the Xrays show he may have some internal bleeding. Were hoping it clears up on its own. I brought home a pile of meds from the Safeway for them to use during this recovery time, Odin is home and warm, and he is eating and drinking, which are all good signs. I hate that we live in a country where people are as poor as our neighbors. I hate that there are people out there whose first thought would be, Well, if they cant afford to pay for the vet bills, they shouldnt have a dog. Honestly? These people cannot afford anything. I have been giving them kids clothes for their two little girls since we moved in, and toys, and school supplies. I hate that this country has become so lopsided that so many have so little. Friends have chipped in already to ease the $250 vet bill, which I am incredibly thankful for. I also have two little girls and five cats and there are days where I think, We cant afford this, but its good to know that when someone, even an adorable puppy named Odin, needs help, people will help. Heres the best picture I could get of the little pooper this morning. He is a shepherd/pit bull mix and SUPER SWEET. This is a few hours after his accident, after his traumatizing ride in the car to the traumatizing doctors office (hed only been in a car once before when he was a baby, because our neighbors dont have a car), and hes doing much better. He was eating and drinking, and now they have medicine too. Im hoping that he recovers, that he doesnt suffer from internal bleeding that cant be fixed without surgery, because I cant afford surgery for him, and neither can his family. And now I have an hour and half before my kids get home from school. OY!!!!!!!!!!
