Now David had run away and escaped. He went to Samuel in Ramah and told him everything that Saul had done to him. Then he and Samuel went and stayed at Naioth. It was reported to Saul saying, “David is at Naioth in Ramah.” So Saul sent messengers to capture David. When they saw a company of prophets prophesying with Samuel standing there as their leader, the spirit of God came upon Saul’s messengers, and they also prophesied. When it was reported to Saul, he sent more messengers, but they prophesied too. So Saul sent messengers a third time, but they also prophesied. 1 Samuel 19:18-21 King Saul tries to kill David: the result of an evil spirit taking hold of Saul with a spear in his hand. David escapes and goes to Samuel. If there was any doubt that God was with David, what is about to happen really sets that straight. Not one, not two, but three times Saul sends messengers to capture David, and the spirit of God comes upon the messengers, and they begin to prophesy. This is just one way the miraculous paved the way for David, as he was obedient to God. Lord God, please go before us as we offer our lives to you in worship, paving our way forward with the miraculous.
