Now I have a better understanding of how the funeral process happens here on the Island. The first night of the wake is for family and the family actually prepares the food for the mourners. I feel blessed to have been able to prepare the food for family at Marshalls request for which night. The second night of the wake is for friends and extended church family and the church ladies prepare the food for this night. Both nights continue from around 9:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m. the next morning or until it is daylight. The funeral is in the afternoon of the 3rd day. There is an embalming process but not like in the USA and it is actually done at home where the body remains until it is placed into the beautiful polished wooden casket and taken to the church the day of the funeral. It is a very respectful process and one that has taught me many valuable lessons about how to celebrate a loved one going to be with Jesus...
