Now, I have never been a big feminist. By that I mean, Ive never been active in equality efforts. By all means, I believe that the genders should be equal in every way and the fact that they arent by this day in age is quite appalling. There are several reasons I havent called myself a feminist. For instance I most definitely believe in chivalry and that it should still be relevant. I like it when men open doors for me, walk on the outside of the sidewalk or walk me back to my car/to the door when they take me home. I also believe that some women portray feminism with a man-hating front which I am firmly against. I believe that it should be an equal and fair cause, not something that tries to prove that women are superior. I also, however, think that it is extremely ridiculous that Emma Watson has been verbally abused and threatened. She has probably been the only person to date to ask men to join in on the issue as well, because she is 100% right. Its everyones issue. Gender inequality doesnt only hurt women. Thats what weve been focused on for way too long. After watching her speech it was definitely a wake up call. If you call yourself a feminist, yet youre constantly hating on men and keep claiming you want equality, you havent figured out what the word actually means and youve been fighting the issue the wrong way and youre actually hindering yourselves, not only from a male following but from a female following as well. Im not ashamed to say that before hearing her speech, I was a bit afraid of the word myself (I refused to call myself one for a while for fear of being lumped in with the rest that stand for things I do not believe), because lets face it, most of the active feminists give off a bad vibe thats sour to the taste (not all, Ive met a few women who are a very good front for this cause and I love them dearly). All Im saying is feminists should lighten up on the slut-shaming and the man-hating and realize that we need men on our side to win this war. I know there would be a lot more willing to join in on the cause if we werent pushing them away. (Sorry for the rant.)
