Now, I like carving wooden spoons, but I also like pewter spoons - TopicsExpress

Now, I like carving wooden spoons, but I also like pewter spoons ... but which is best? Theres only one way to find out .... Ive had some experience in making silicone moulds for casting resin models. Ive since become more interested in carving spoons ... no need to tell you lot why, its quite addictive, but making useful objects out of natural materials is a joy. Ive always admired the medieval pewter spoons in Bayleaf House in the Weald & Downland museum so decided to try making some using the processes I picked up from working with resin. The pattern is carved from silver birch and left un-sanded, but oiled after drying. Silicone mould is specifically heat resistant to withstand the low (but still very hot!) melting point of pewter. Pewter itself is 100% English lead free so safe for use. Whilst it is a metal spoon Im pleased with how it faithfully captured the cut marks and even the grain. Anyway, fun project, and thanks to my long suffering wife I managed to complete the whole process in the kitchen!
