Now WHY would Jesus rebuke Peter and call him Satan? Mat 16:21 - TopicsExpress

Now WHY would Jesus rebuke Peter and call him Satan? Mat 16:21 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Mat 16:22 Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. Mat 16:23 But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Mat 16:24 Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Because Satan was using Peter and his carnal earthly feelings. In Peters carnal mind, he did not want Jesus to die & to be obedient to His Father unto the death at the cross. He thought he was being merciful and kind to want to protect Jesus. Jesus was perfect and filled with the Spirit of truth and OBEDIENCE OF HIS FATHERS WORD. Peter was carnal minded thinking of only this life. Satan through Peter even tried to trick Jesus into not going to the cross. Jesus in His complete obedience to the Father went to cross and died for the sins of the world. Had he listened to Peter and his carnal earthly self, No man would have been saved. All would go to Hell and the Lake of Fire. This is the example of how Satan uses our carnal thoughts and feelings to over ride obedience to the whole Word of God. Let us not forget that Satan tried to tempt Jesus many times, but Jesus is the Word of God and he went to that cross in obedience to his FATHER so that the souls of the world could be saved.
