Now What ? The presents have been opened, the food is consumed, - TopicsExpress

Now What ? The presents have been opened, the food is consumed, the newness is beginning to wear off and we marvel that boxes are sometimes more enjoyed than toys and gifts. The first Christmas was somewhat similar to the one we have just experienced. Men and women still have to go on about their daily lives, work must be done, families must be cared for, and life goes on. Mary had that baby in a manger over 2000 years ago, and then, she had to have Him circumcised and named, and 33 days later offer a sacrifice at the Temple for God’s Own Son, the Sacrifice to save the world. It is easy to let life cause us to lose sight of what is truly important. Christmas is exciting! Lights, Family, Presents, Food, Friends and so much to do, but in the midst of it all, for those of us who belong to Jesus, there should be a great peace. We are God’s children, the things of this earth should hold a very distant second place to who we truly are and to whom we truly belong. We have seen the gift of the baby in the manger. His life was one of turmoil from day one; born in a stable, observed and adored by shepherds, moved to a house, visited by Wise Men from the East, rushed out of Bethlehem to Egypt, moved back to Nazareth, constantly in fear for the life of this child who was to be the Savior of the World. Yet, about this child was a peace not found upon this earth. He was never rushed, never in fear, just obedient to the Father as He moved toward the gift that would be finished upon a cross. Our lives should be as this one. It isn’t what would Jesus do, but what would Jesus have us do? Our lives should be so focused on sharing the gift that God gave us that we cease to worry about what those around us think. We are called to be faithful, loving, caring, filled with the wisdom of heaven by the power of the Holy Spirit who abides in us. This is not a gift sent to be kept close to our heart, but a gift to be shared, a love to be poured out even upon the undeserving, perhaps especially upon the undeserving, for is that not what Jesus did for us? “He was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world did not recognize Him. … Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God.” John 1:10-12.
