New Youth Hockey Programming April 7, 2014 Local Associations Announce New Youth Hockey Agreement The youth hockey associations at all three local rinks as well as the Nashville Jr. Predators (NJP) are pleased to announce the formation of a new cooperative agreement for youth hockey in Middle Tennessee. Starting in the fall of 2014, the Nashville Youth Hockey League (NYHL) at Centennial Sportsplex, A-Game, and the new Ford Ice Center in Antioch, will independently operate the following programs: learn-to-skate, house league, house league select and A-level travel hockey[1] from ages 5-18. The NJP, conversely, will oversee all AA travel teams and above, fielding approximately six to eight AA travel teams in the coming season. It is the belief of all concerned that this agreement is fundamental to putting forward the strongest developmental model for all youth hockey participants across Middle Tennessee in addition to growing the game at the grassroots level and beyond. “With the local rinks continuing to foster player development through the ADM model and the Jr. Predators operating elite travel programs, we create an environment where everyone benefits as Greater Nashvilles participation in youth hockey grows at a rapid pace. This is a win for players, parents, and coaches! A-Game is excited to be part of this solution,” says Tim McAllister, A-Game Hockey Director. John Higgins, NYHL President and Chairman agrees that “the NYHL is thrilled to join forces with our local colleagues to foster a graduating scale of youth hockey programs. Development of players will remain at the local level – the elite level talent will go on to represent Nashville, collectively. Players at all ages and skill levels will benefit from this restructuring.” A clearly defined tier system between Middle Tennessee rinks is a tremendous step in providing the broadest range of developmental choices for players of all ages and at all skill levels. The NJP is pleased to partner with the other area associations to shape this important structure,” adds Stu Grimson, NJP President. Lastly, representatives from all four associations will be on hand to discuss the above model and answer any and all questions at a Youth Hockey Open House to be held on April 30, 2014, beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Bridgestone Arena. Any and all interested hockey parents are welcome to attend, regardless of rink or association affiliation.
