Now at Toronto Pearson International Airport... TIFF has been ten days of back to back meetings and presentations - the most intense of any international film market weve participated in thus far. Film markets can be dens of treachery where those with predatory agendas seek out filmmakers under the guise of brokers and/or investors. In the last 4 1/2 years we have seen just about every scheme and con imaginable. I feel that Ive earned the equivalent of a Masters Degree in navigating festivals and markets, but that came at quite a price. At least we now can discern what is real and what isnt. This was the first market where we took our hard earned knowledge and assertively wielded it to focus only on worthwhile presentations to real and credible private equity sources. Hint: You will hardly ever find them hanging out at the official film festival venues. But the effort also requires building relationships with people with good hearts whom you can trust. Theyre out there, but they are rare. We have been most fortunate in that regard. I can make no promises as to the final outcome, other than to say, finally we have pitched the right people; and the response thus far has been wholly positive. Just remember the following: If your film project(s) as an alternative asset investment vehicle makes sense, then it is likely to follow that investing in your film will make sense - to the right people. Thats what we were able to finally prove on this trip.
