Now before some of you start saying Im racist... just know that Im simply opening up this topic for conversation. I came across these statements this morning>>> Hollywood has insecurities when it comes to giving recognition to Beautiful Black Women in films. In Hollywood a Black woman has to conform to the mammy, jezebel or sapphire roles. Not only does she have to fulfill these stereotypes, but she also needs to be MADE to look less physically appealing than her white counterparts. And a snippet from another article: The reader then told me about a quote she read once by Kelita Smith who played Bernie Mac’s wife on his sitcom. According to Smith, when she reads for a role in a casting session she purposely de-glamorizes herself to appear as plain as possible, because the filmmakers don’t want to hire attractive black actresses for roles, preferring them to look bad, in order to make white actresses appear more attractive... How do you feel about it? Do you think its true?
