Now, guest lists ARE closed, although I feel like this needs to be said. Its not ALL about clubbing tonight. 20 years ago Melbourne experienced what some call Melbournes Stonewall Riots. The Tasty Raid of 1994 saw some 460 patrons get strip searched and violated by the Victorian Police Force over a questionable drug raid. Victims of that raid include Poof Doof DJ Gavin Campbell and famous sleepwear designer, Peter Alexander. It was a public relations nightmare for the Victorian Government and cost the state $6,000,000 and a few lengthy court cases from patrons who took it further. Since then, policies have changed within the Police Department and the bond between the LGBTIQ Community and the Victorian Police has been slowly strengthening over the years. Tonight we celebrate the fact that we have places like The Grey Hound, Exchange and Poof Doof were we can feel safe, protected and RESPECTED by the Police if need be. Weve come such a long way in such short time. So it gives me great pleasure to invite you all tonight to Poof Doofs Tasty Reunion to commemorate the beginning of LGBTIQ acceptance in the Victorian Police Force. Happy Saturday, everyone.
