Now here is a beauty. I wonder how many people remember this - 1967. Two Caribous from the RAAF flew us down to Alotau for an exercise in the Milne Bay area. Sgt Jim McKinlay (Decd) and I were qualified load masters for Caribou and C130 aircraft. A very good friend of mine and a high school mate, Flying Officer Rex Ingram was one of the pilots. he told me to load my platoon on to his aircraft. After we took off he called me up to the cockpit, kicked out his co-pilot and allowed me to fly the plane until we were in sight of Alotau strip. It was a great exercise and we re-enacted what the Aussies did at the Milne Bay airstrip when they captured it from the japs. There is a very decent memorial plaque on the western end of that airstrip. The photo shows my platoon loading onto Rexs Caribou.
