Now here is a reason why I dont get my vehicles serviced by Dealerships. Nancy bought a nice used Subaru from a dealership here in Peoria,IL. It had a small drip of oil that would fall on the exhaust and then that oil smoke would then filter right into the passenger cabin. I decided to take a look and see why a 4 year old car was leaking oil. First thing I noticed is the oil filter had a drip of oil and it said Nissan on it. No big deal as I have heard that some filters interchange. Do you notice anything funny about the nissan oil filter? Like maybe the lack of a rubber seal, or the fact that the inlet is inverted. Then I tried to remove the oil filter and could not. I ended up using my cup style oil filter wrench, skateboard grip tape and a breaker bar to remove the nissan oil filter. I guess the oil lube guy seen it leaking so he proceeded to tighten it and tighten it until it just seeped out. They tightened it so much that it was a metal on metal seal and if you look close, you can see that there is no paint left on the rim of the nissan filter. I put a new filter on that was made for the Subaru and put it in hand tight and just a tiny bit more and presto,no leaks or burnt oil smell.
