Now in her early teens, emotions came to her like waves, tossing her about on seas that rose and fell. On this morning she sat alone, sorting through how she felt as she sat on the floor with her knees drawn up close to her chest, leaning her head on her leg and hugging her calves. As the light of the window poured in, it warmed her back as she looked across the room to see herself in the mirror. Just yesterday it seemed she was a little girl, and now she saw a lovely young lady staring back at her. For a moment she was startled at the beauty she saw, as if she were looking at another person. It was then that her frown had softened and she felt a warmth in her heart for she suddenly realized that she was no longer a frightened little girl but a very capable, strong and beautiful young woman, armed with knowledge and free to choose the path down which she would walk. From now on, nobody would ever bring her down again. She would be patient and wait for the right person and no longer stand for abusive words or actions by those who said they loved her. Starting today, she was reborn, and nobody was going to stand in her way.
