Now is the time for everyone around the country to answer the call for action and help build or rebuild strong and inclusive communities in every part of the United States of America. The peaceful protest by members of the Ferguson community reflects the America that we all believe in and admire—an America that is diverse, strong, supportive and fruitful. We must close the gap of disparities between the America that provides access to quality education, housing, and prosperous economic opportunities and the America that does not. We must all demand better because we all deserve better. Last night, I spoke with Kathleen Hennessey of the LA Times about President Obamas reaction to Michael Browns death in Ferguson, Missouri. I applaud the President for ordering a federal civil rights investigation and an autopsy to be completed by the Department of Justice. I also applaud him for sending U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder to Ferguson to oversee the investigation and meet with community leaders.
