Now tell me.. Why would anyone want to be a teacher in the School District of Philadelphia? There is a reason seniority was implemented historically. It was to combat pervasive cronyism. It was to protect hard working teachers from vindictive and petty administrators. Those who say that seniority protects poor teachers miss the point. There is a system in place to discipline and remove those teachers. If that hasnt happened its because administrators have not followed that process nor done THEIR jobs. Hite is wrong here. Its the wrong battle. And it will not serve to improve schools -- it will only further alienate teachers and drive the best ones away.
