Now that Bruce Rauner is Illinois’ Governor, State Senator Dale - TopicsExpress

Now that Bruce Rauner is Illinois’ Governor, State Senator Dale Righter (R-Mattoon) says it’s a new day for Illinois. “I am very excited and very optimistic for Illinois’ future,” Senator Righter said. “We are now transitioning from a more than decade long one party rule that brought us huge budget deficits, a major tax increase, and weak economic growth, to bipartisan government that must focus on turning Illinois around for the betterment of everyone. We are long overdue to head in a different direction.” While Righter is confident Illinois’ issues will improve, he recognizes it will take years for the state to regain its fiscal solvency and see the economy rebound. These only come with difficult decisions and solutions. “One of the challenges we are going to face in 2015 is how we will deal with the fiscal crisis in which our state and its citizens find themselves,” Senator Righter said. “The budget that was adopted by the Democrats last year, while clearly unbalanced at the time of passage, we see now approximately $1.5 billion deeper in red ink. That means the road we are going to have to take beginning this spring will be even more difficult as we work to try to get our fiscal footing back and begin a path of balanced budgets, paying bills on time, and an economic revival.” Lawmakers will be sworn into office Wednesday, January 14th. “My commitment is we will get Illinois straightened out,” Senator Righter said. “With Governor Rauner’s leadership, the fact that he will actually live in Springfield and be available during session days, and now that Republicans have a seat at the table, we will get things done and it will get it done right.”
