Now that I am officially cancer free, I guess I am some kind of - TopicsExpress

Now that I am officially cancer free, I guess I am some kind of authority now, hahaha, you can laugh at that one cus its really really funny, me in authority to say a few words to my friends who may secretly be preparing for chemo, have just heard they have cancer or know someone with cancer. I did not know I had any knowledge to say anything to anyone until recently when people began staring up at me as if Im some kind of a ghost with information about the afterlife, which really, cancer and chemotherapy are. Here is my first lesson of a series of disjointed, disorganized, scatter thoughts from now on when memory jolts me to remember to put out a word or two to my friends: 1. So, you have cancer, you were told, and maybe your kind of cancer is the aggressive form that kills everyone, and now, this information is so heavy, you feel sorry for yourself and want to die, want to quit your job, quit living, and you blame the world for this terrible tragedy on your life. You want to shut out everyone and you even feel like someone is to blame. This is okay to feel that way. After all, cancer was not part of your new years resolution, so its okay to cry a little, to pout, to throw something against the wall. You are a human being and human beings dont want that kind of death sentence, but remember, this is NOT a death sentence. Remember this: You can kill yourself faster if you spend too much time thinking about death. Do not do that, and yes, feel a bit sorry for yourself, but dont spend too much time doing that. This is what I said to myself. If cancer is a disease and if it affects human beings, and if I am a human being, then I can get cancer. Remember that millions of people around the world have or are struggling with cancer, and that you are not better than them. And if you can get cancer, then you can be healed of cancer. Make up your mind to LIVE, and let your doctors know that it is your intention to survive this cancer, and fight all you can with your nutrition, your medications, your prayerful life, all your energy. Stay close to positive family and friends. Get rid of negative people, even negative family members. And finally, in this first chat, remember this: The friends who have been long life friends may not be there for you, and its okay too. Set them as free as they want. Make friends who can follow you on this journey. New friends will pop up, so, remember to cherish them. Keep all those who want to care, but do not lean on them alone. Lean first on your God, the sovereign one in your life, and your own inner self. You are the reason you want to live, so fight, even if everyone with your type of cancer is dying, fight. Smile at every day you see, and fight. It is most possible to win your battle when you believe in life rather than death. If you do not want to, you do not have to join a cancer group or movement. You can build your own movement of friends, cancer survivors, cancer patients, in person or virtual. Use all the technology at your disposal to fight, and stay close, even virtually, to positive thinking people. God bless you.
