Now that I have completed my Master’s Degree in Psychology, I have learned that social media is not as fun as it used to be. I did my final paper on Peer Pressure and the effect of Social Media on children/adolescents. Throughout the entire process of my degree, I focused on Bullying and Peer Pressure. So many people have got the wrong idea about bullying over the years and it has gotten out of hand. When someone posts something on a social media site, some people will take it the wrong way and automatically assumes it is about them or someone in their family, even if the post states otherwise. Posting a comment or a post is not always about Bullying. A negative comment is not always meant towards anyone. People use social media to vent and to say things they might not say out loud or in person. If people want to think that a posting is all about them, then so be it. I have posted negative, positive, cute, funny, and not so nice things on social media. No it wasn’t always the right thing to do, but I did and so have so many other people in this world. As my daughter told me “Mom, social media is a good thing if you use it for the right reason.” She is pretty smart..wink wink. With this being said, I will be backing off of social media for a while to RELAX and ENJOY my family and friends. I will still be around, just not out and about on social media as much. My brother Claude once said: “There are two things that nobody in this world can ever take away from you: Your degree and you doing right by your grand-kids.” Love ya brother!! One final note: Use social media for the good and stop trying to read into things that are not clearly directed towards others.
