Now that I have had a chance to talk to talk to family members directly, hug it out and pray for guidance, I am in a clearer space than earlier. Individuals GET THINGS WRONG. Damn A.G. Dewine and the Greene County Prosecutor Haller. The act of bringing cases of police killings of Blacks to Grand Juries, such as this, is significant, and not because the Grand Jury did not indict in the Crawford case, but rather because they were presented the case to begin with. Twenty, fifty, or more years ago, that absolutely would not have happened. The District Attorney’s Office has the authority to directly charge an individual and forego the Grand Jury. Most often, the Grand Jury is used in instances to deflect potential blame from a D.A. who doesn’t get the job done and land a conviction, or to altogether allow him or her to distance himself or herself when the alleged crime is inextricably linked with politics, especially when it involves racial issues and identity politics. We may think Black Lives Matter but in spaces where that sentiment is not commonly shared, POLITICS MATTER.
