Now that I have rested and basked in the joy of my almost perfect vacation, I am ready to share the one bad thing that happened to me in Rome. (And it wasnt THAT bad, because I didnt lose anything). I was (accosted, attacked, assaulted) I am not sure what to call it but I am not being overly dramatic because it felt like an all out assault. I was right outside the train station in Rome, just 2 blocks from our hotel and heading for the ship. 2 young girls came charging over to me and one was on my right fluttering something (I never looked at it because it was clearly a diversionary tactic). The girl on my left had some kind of heavy cardboard that she was very forcefully shoving into me right up against where my purse was hanging from around my neck and she was just going at it trying to get into my purse. I had a closed tote on my right arm and was dragging my suitcase with the left arm, so the purse was hanging freely from my neck but was up close to me and the zippered part with my credit card was up against me and not that accessible. I am sure she got at least one of the 2 zippers open but it is a very small purse and I had very little in it and NO MONEY. Thats right, I had just gotten rid of the last of my cash and had plans to get more onboard the ship. So they got nothing!! That was a very sweet victory but nevertheless, a terrifying experience. I think I handled myself very well. I have never seen myself as a victim and I held my composure and just kept walking FAST. Woo Hoo. I won.
