Now that Im home, napped, and on the computer, rather than my phone (Im going to so enjoy the iPhone 6+ -- I tried one at the mall, and my fingers fit on the keyboard!), there were a couple of moments that stood out this morning. Berea is not a high-crime area. The majority of the cases were shoplifting, a little drug use, not carrying auto insurance . . . the one fellow who KEPT getting stopped for DUI seemed a bit dim, but the manner was very casual. Even joked a bit with the sheriffs deputies beforehand. Both the county attorney and the judge were a bit overwhelmed with the amount of documentation I had. The judge kept looking at the attorney with a look of what do we DO with all this? on his face. When we went back to the night in question in February, I looked at the judge and asked It says here I was booked for failure to give way to the safety vehicle. There was one on my left, and there were two on my right, and they stopped me for driving erratically and swerving. What should I have done? He said Count dismissed. After it was all over, and I was putting everything away, the judge looked at me and said Why were you so nervous, Mr. Davis? I said Your Honor, I was a military man. There is NOTHING worse than standing before a superior officer and saying I dont remember, even if you have solid medical reason. He said, Well, this isnt the Spanish Inquisition. . . . wait for it. I said, very quietly, so most did not hear, But Your Honor, No one EXPECTS the Spanish Inquisition. -- and he laughed, and only the clerk and county attorney knew why.
