Now that Ive actually seen American Sniper, the criticism from idiots like Michael Moore, Seth Rodin, and now Bill Maher seems even more designed to stir the pot and call attention to themselves. Their criticisms hold no water. Between the three of them, they had three main criticisms: 1. That it glorifies snipers, who are, in Moores world, cowards. Well, 80 percent of the military action involving the main character has him fighting on the ground. He risks his live to save wounded comrades. Even though hes a Navy Seal sniper, he VOLUNTEERS to go door-to-door in Fallujah with the Marines. The coward comment reveals Moore to be a trolling asshole looking to capitalize off the movies popularity to call attention to what is probably a fading career. 2. That the main character calls the enemy savages throughout the movie. The words savage or savages is said exactly THREE times. Three. Hardly throughout the movie. And you can damn well bet that we called the Germans, Japanese and Vietnamese a lot worse than that. So Maher can suck it, as usual. Another guy desperate for attention. 3. It glorifies war, like a Nazi propaganda movie, according the brilliant actor Seth Rogen. And when I say brilliant I mean really, REALLY mediocre. As my friend Shel Holtz pointed out, this is more of an anti-war movie than any kind of propaganda. Its shows the toll it takes on soldiers and their family. Its about PTSD and our wounded warriors. Does the main character come out looking good? Sure. He did four tours in the most violent areas of Iraq, and saved, literally, thousands of lives. But he also comes out broken, and that is one of the main themes. I have to wonder if ANY of these assholes who are criticizing it actually SAW the movie before they tried to take advantage of it to boost their pitiful careers.
