Now that Katherine (Nina Dobrev) is a good, old-fashioned human, we’re not sure what — if any — her supernatural role will be in Season 5 of The Vampire Diaries. We do have one theory, though: that the born-again human Katherine will gang up with Silas (Paul Wesley) to wreak havoc on an unsuspecting Mystic Falls. We outline our theory below. She was the one who woke him Silas doesn’t have anyone close to a friend in Mystic Falls — nor, does he probably want one — but, if forced to pick, Katherine would probably be the closest. She was the one who woke Silas from his slumber (though, admittedly, she did it to secure the cure). We don’t think Silas has an overabundance of feeling beneath that well-toned exterior, but he’s gotta maybe feel a twinge of gratitude towards the person who awoke him from centuries-long desiccation. She needs a powerful ally If Katherine is good at one thing, it is protecting herself. That is going to be pretty hard now that she is human — especially considering her friend to enemy ratio. We could totally see Katherine allying herself with the most powerful being in Mystic Falls/the universe, i.e. Silas. Silas might just be Katherine’s best chance at survival. Otherwise, she might have to resort to being nice to people. They’re getting pretty cozy in the trailer There is some cold, hard evidence to back up our theory — or, should we say hot, sudsy evidence? In the Season 5 promo, we see Katherine inviting Silas (pretending to be Stefan) into her bubble bath. And he tells her, “Human looks better on you than I would have thought, Katherine.” Seems like something’s brewing between these two villains. They look like each other’s true loves We’ve speculated before that Silas’ lover was the original Petrova doppelganger he aimed to make immortal. If that’s the case, we could totally see Silas falling for the girl who looks exactly like her (though, that distinction didn’t seem to help Elena much). If that weren’t enough to tip the attraction scales, Silas also happens to look like Katherine’s long-time love, Stefan. We’re not sure how much Katherine truly did/does love Stefan, considering she left him for a century and a half, but she did also kind of stalk him in that time.
