Now that all students are back at school, its time to support our local schools and cheer on the talented students as they compete for academic, athletic or other talent-based excellence. If you live in Vienna, you can start this Friday by coming to the James Madison High School home opener football game against Oakton HS, where the Pride of Vienna Marching Band will be performing. The JMHS Marching Band is an award-winning band which will be competing in the Grand Nationals Championship this fall (its the first Fairfax County school band to compete at Grand Nationals in 26 years!). And the Pride of Vienna is one of only 5 schools in the country to ever receive the prestigious John Philip Sousa Foundations Sudler Flag of Honor more than once. In 2011 when they received this great recognition for the second time, I had the honor of presenting the band with this resolution from the Virginia General Assembly: lis.virginia.gov/cgi-bin/legp604.exe?122+ful+HJ5029 Led by band director Michael Hackbarth, JMHS Marching Band has enlisted the talents of drill writer Mitch Rogers of the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps for this season’s program.
