Now that am no longer in doubt, it is necessary I dot these lines - TopicsExpress

Now that am no longer in doubt, it is necessary I dot these lines as a tribute to a cherished friend, a gallant officer. We became friends when I was serving in 245 Recce Battalion, Ikom Cross River State. He was then a lieutenant in the army. He was fond of me and few other cliques who loved adventure and were sociable. Hardly will he leave the barracks without our company; even soldiers in the lower cadre were his friends. He was a symbol of humility, an icon of peace, a thorough bred disciplined by profession and ethnic convictions. Capt. Oloruntoba Moses Ayorinde was a jolly-good fellow. Is hard to write about this rare gem in past tense but God knows better. God knows why it happened now. I wont question God. My tears wont bring him back but his memories will linger forever. I will never forget the times we spent together. His generosity can not be over emphasised; he had a large heart. My condolence to all members of his family, especially his Mum; this is indeed a trying moment. May God see her through this sorrowful phase of life. I pray for Gods grace in the life of his wife. He just married on the 26th of April this year. I remember vividly a night when we were driving from Ikom town to barracks. We discussed at length on the issue of marriage and I promised to attend his wedding anywhere it will take place. I didnt keep to that promise due to my schedule at that time. He understood my condition and even sent me a text after the wedding. The last time we spoke on phone was on the 21st of November, when we were chatting via whatsap and I told him I was sick, he called me immediately to know the state of my health. Little did I know it will be our last conversation. I learnt he was killed on the 9th of December. Adewale Olawale couldnt break the news to me in a direct message, he couldnt mention his name because he knows our intimacy. Even when he told me Captain was shot on the head I still didnt get the message. It was when I called his mobile numbers and it didnt connect that my fears escalated. Still in that mood, a call came in from Gora Specialist confirming my doubts. He was duly informed by Lt. Bitrus so I couldnt doubt anymore. Sir, you left when the ovation was loudest, I would have love a scene where we sit to discuss the days of insurgency in past tense; a discussion where you should highlight your experiences on the field, that day will never come again. Thank you for always standing by me-at all times. Thank you for showing me love in the midst of numerous comrades. Thank you for the trust, I promise to keep the best secrets till we meet again. You fought for the right course, you are indeed a hero. The days of insurgency will come and go but memories of you will remain forever. Let the perpetual light of God continue to shine on your soul. May God grant you eternal rest. Rest in Peace Captain Oloruntoba Moses Ayorinde.
