Now that is what I consider an appropriate response to public concern. Below is the hot off the press release and official response to our petition. Please consider the words with care and remember that now the tendering has started (albeit a hasty move) it is not possible to stop because of legal challenge. However I can confirm Bradley will be placing a tender and just how our views will be added now to this as community representation will decided at the next meeting on the 7th July. I do not think at this stage we can ask for more than this and class this as a result. Victory will be if Bradley wins the tender on the merrit of HIS bid and we should NOT comment on that here really. Think about that before commenting please :) NEWS RELEASE 27 June 2014 City of London Corporation receives High Beech tea hut petition Sue Ireland, the City of London Corporation’s Director of Open Spaces, today (27 June) received a petition from the ‘Save the Tea Hut’ campaign group in the Square Mile. A copy of the petition was presented by three representatives - Paul Morris, Ralph Ankers and Steve Barron – who expressed concern over the ‘bikers’ tea hut in High Beech, Epping Forest being put out to tender. They have set up aChange.org petition and a Facebook group in response. Addressing the representatives, Sue Ireland said: “On behalf of the City of London and the Epping Forest and Commons Committee, I would like to thank you all for this petition, and for presenting the petition in person. “The Committee, appointed as the Conservators of Epping Forest and the statutory custodian of London’s largest Open Space, has the often difficult task of balancing the very many competing interests across the Forest. I sometimes consider we should include “juggling skills” in our job specifications. Managing competing demands means that the aspirations of the charitable trust’s beneficiaries can at times, challenge the requirements of good governance. “The Change.org petition demonstrates a significant level of public passion for the current Hill Wood Tea Hut. The Superintendent and I will ensure your comments and views are properly presented to the Committee and no doubt the Committee will want to explore how these views might be reflected in the current tender process. “Let me assure you all that the whole Epping Forest team remains dedicated to the Forest’s well-being and to ensuring that it is enjoyed widely – by this generation and those to come.”
