Now that the 2014 City Council elections are over I cant help but - TopicsExpress

Now that the 2014 City Council elections are over I cant help but think of my first time serving as the campaign manager for who turned out to be a very good friend of mine the Honorable Lee E.King (RIP), a former City Councilman of Portsmouth. It was 1990 and I was a 36 year old Realtor pushing for change because a few councilmen had held the office for almost twenty years and we felt they were a little out of touch! The whole campaign process was a real learning experience for me and Mr.King who was active in Crime Prevention in Cavalier Manor but a first time council candidate. With many boots on the ground ( mostly family members and neighbors), lots of reseach, endless strategy session hours, forum dates, meeting with different groups and a belief in our candidate led us to victory. Helping get my friend elected to City Council also gave me a voice as I spoke up for the need for elected School Board members when they were being appointed. We failed in our bid for re-election but still many lessons were learned by all and we continued to work collectively for a brighter future for our city. I congratulate those who worked on campaigns this year and encourage others to do the same for the upcoming 2016 contests. There are many ways to be involved. Its not only rewarding but a very informative experience for concerned citizens, future board or commission members and elected office candidates! My point is just being involved you can help make a difference!!!
