Now that the Donald Sterling furor has (mostly) passed, Id like to make a small point that I dont think Ive seen written up anywhere. I think its safe to say that Sterlings point of view is pretty common among the octogenarian demographic (at least in the South, where I grew up). So in focusing so much shame and blame on Sterling the individual, are we glossing over the fact that the same thinking is not considered crazy at all among many others in the 80+ set? Its just that precious few 80+ year olds have Sterlings platform, $2 billion in assets, and a 20-something mistress who wants to take them down. No?
