Now that the crew is done detoxing and we are in the enjoyable building phase, I took the girls into Koroni this afternoon, which is another breathtaking and ancient town not far from me. This place is 4,000 years old!! Thats older than the Acropolis! We went and took sweet refuge within these castle walls overlooking the azure-stained sea. The haunting beauty of this luminous spot takes your breath away. This 12th century castle also houses a monastery. Theres an interesting story told by the elders around here about this spot. Its documented that the Turks Egyptian ally, Ibrahim Pasha, destroyed Koroni by way of fire in 1825. It was literally burned to the ground. Whats not documented but spoken of all over this region is that the only reason there are Korneki olives to this day is due to the fact that a few clippings of the branches from this olive tree were hidden inside the castles monastery and were spared from the fire. It was from these few branches that they were able to bring back one of the most important medicinal trees to ever exist. We would have no Rallis Olive Oil people!!!! ;)
