Now that the elections of Barack Obama are long since over, I am - TopicsExpress

Now that the elections of Barack Obama are long since over, I am free to express my opinion without implications regarding my other interests. I have watched carefully the presidents since I became politically aware in my early teens. Ive made a solid attempt to understand the Constitution of the United States, the Bill of Rights, and the role of each branch of government and of government in general. Ive listened to speeches of presidents and other world leaders and read historical speeches and Supreme Court decisions relating to key issues. From all this reading and listening, Ive developed some healthy skepticism of those who take polar positions, since they always seem to be delusional in some way. Most legitimate issues have at least one legitimate argument on each side. I knew that President Obama would not be perfect, but I voted for him twice for one primary reason. He seemed to listen well. I concluded this because, when he spoke publicly, he demonstrated his understanding of multiple perspectives by including references to those perspectives WITHIN AN EXPLANATION OF HIS POSITION. I like it when we, as citizens, are not treated like idiots, capable of understanding only infantile propaganda. It is good for the U.S. to hear a reason-based decision process from our leaders. Lincoln had that same characteristic of expressing his thinking. It is the right way for government to communicate with an educated audience. Ive examine the critique of the Obama presidency with an open mind to the possibility that he had fooled me and is a fake. Ive concluded from my research of his speeches and official bill actions that the policy currently under criticism is sound and the critique is flawed in almost every case. I cant say Barack Obama has the same spiritual, social, scientific, or economic beliefs as me, but he has acted with integrity along the lines of his expressed beliefs in those areas. By a substantial margin, President Obama has so far been the best U.S. President Ive seen in my lifetime, and possibly one of the ten best since the Declaration of Independence. I believe it is important that presidents rotate out at the end of their second term, but I would vote for another president with Obamas qualities in future elections.
