Now that the snow is coming making pedestrian travel even more - TopicsExpress

Now that the snow is coming making pedestrian travel even more difficult, I thought I’d share seven simple rules for pedestrian travel that have come to mind based on crazy things I have witnessed lately: 1) Always cross the street in a crosswalk, but if you’re at a stop light, you should have a “walk” light. At least cross at a green light. I don’t have to stop for you if you’re crossing against a red light, even if you are in a crosswalk. What are you thinking? 2) Don’t open your car door when there is traffic coming. They may take off your car door and your hand with it. 3) Getting out of the car when there is traffic coming, especially large 16-wheel trucks down busy two-lane streets is just crazy. 4) So you’re out of the car now, and you’re walking in the road alongside cars instead of on the sidewalk on the other side of the car? See number 3. 5) A bicycle is not a pedestrian. A bicycle is a vehicle. A bicycle belongs on the road driving in the direction of traffic not on the sidewalk. 6) A bicycle in a crosswalk is fair game. (See number 5.) 7) A pedestrian, on the other hand, should be walking against traffic, not with it, better to jump out of the way, if needed. Have you seen me drive?
