Now that we finally know whos going to get beat by New England in the Superbowl, I feel we can now move on to weightier matters. As most of my friends know, I love a good political debate. While most of my friends are well-versed in political discussion, some are clearly less skilled in the art as others. Over the years, Ive studied many debating styles and Ive found that the one that seems to be the most successful in America are the ones typical of our good friends at Fox News. While more experienced debaters like myself, Eric Finkelstein and Alex Jones will continue to use our own inimitable styles; here are some pointers from some of the luminaries at Fox that have proven so successful. Make sure debate opponent is NOT in the same room. If you cant avoid political debate opponent being in the same room with you; make sure your chair is taller than your opponent and that opponents head is barely above the desk. Maintain straight-back posture and angle your face so that you present the image of the Master educating the apprentice (Bill OReilly). Asked pointed questions that immediately put your opponent on the defensive; such as Why do you hate America? Hammer away at previous statements or writings taken out of context to keep opponent on defensive. (Bill OReilly) Deny any and all references you may have made to opponent being unpatriotic, Anti-American, or A pin head, make sure to get back to hammering away at previous aggressive tactic. (Bill OReilly) Claim information with no evidence from legitimate sources as fact; for example: The city of Birmingham, AL is now 90% Muslim (Sean Hannity) As opponent is trying to contradict outrageous claims, continually interrupt. This tactic is especially useful against people from academic backgrounds as they tend to be polite and speak in reasonable voices. (Sean Hannity) If opponent tries to continue making their point, talk louder. If opponent persists, they will eventually reach a volume level that sounds like their screaming in anger; thus making you look like the good guy. (Most of Fox paid staff) Make sure to bully children and/or the elderly who might disagree with your opinion. (Fox religious experts) Dont forget to exaggerate positions of opponents in a negative way; such as Neutering feral cats into Why do you hate kittens?? And probably most importantly... Cut to commercial after your opponent has made a good point. While it is true that MSNBC uses much of the same tactics; Fox is just a heck of a lot better at it.
