Now the question is, who should be in charge of the execution of such limitations? Would it not be a better idea if the imposition of such limitations on freedom are produced in close collaboration with the general public on a temporary basis? A long-term limitation would create unnecessary obstacles on the part of social developments. The experience of Islamic societies has so far proven that, once a limited group of leadership is in charge of imposing limitations on freedom, this will eventually result in the breaking down of social barriers, in lawlessness, and in anarchy. What is meant by political participation in the provision of limitations to logical freedom is that such decisions should be open to consultation with the public in the form of voting. When social problems are reflected throughout the mass media, this will in turn attract the public’s attention and will require the necessary governmental bodies to make the appropriate measures in relation to limitations on freedom across society. But is there such approval applied within Islamic society? There are many references to freedom within the constitutions of the Islamic states. But the majority of the world’s public are conscious that these are merely empty gestures written on paper only. If it benefits the Islamic leaders, they can easily dismiss the validity of constitutional laws relating to freedom. The despotic leadership of the Islamic state of Iran has inflicted so much damage on freedom that the term “freedom” is left without any context.
