Now, when I was very small we had a dog. Not immediately, but soon - TopicsExpress

Now, when I was very small we had a dog. Not immediately, but soon after obtaining it, the dog was obviously capable of understanding English sentences when it was motivated to. Not ordinary, dog-understandable sentences... things like this: bring me the yellow paper from over there, or get my left shoe from the bedroom. My father believed the dog was unusually intelligent. He was more correct than he imagined. Here is what I later discovered. My bond with the dog was so deep that it was able to use my mind as a satellite. It was thus able to parse English by utilizing assets in local minds, rather than having to rebuild them from scratch. And I was doing the same thing. In a number of ways that were not apparent, but got me labeled as a prodigy. Here’s the part I never told anyone: what happened at night, when we were asleep. And that’s the part I will not tell, for you, yourself, must discover it. And when you do? You’re going to realize that the people who were idiotic about the dog-chasing-ball/stick phenomenon... were us, not them. And even when they chase prey, rather than representations... they are trying to replay, in the daylight... a ... metaphor... ... of something we do -together- at night... ...that is so astonishing and heroic that if you could simply remember it (which you are ordinarily protected from for important reasons)... it would remake your mind. Entirely. — an anonymous informant
