Thankfully Jacksonvilles Undersheriff speaks from the heart about the citys proposed radical police pension cuts underway, pointing out that to become a Jacksonville police officer requires a 4-year college degree, plus passing extensive screenings and tests designed to ensure the highest caliber of officers, and all for a starting salary of $38,100, with no social security benefits, only their JSO pension plan. These officers have not received raises since 2008 (thats six years with no raises), yet they remain dedicated to putting their lives on the line for the safety of their community, and sadly, since 2001, nine officers have been shot in the line of duty.
