Nowadays you don’t have to be an Astronaut to go on space missions; you may not even have any business to do in space you may just travel there on holiday if you can afford it. Rich millionaires now go on expensive adventures into space. An American space tourist has just returned to earth after spending 12 days on a Russian space shuttle. He paid US$35 million for his 12–day space adventure. Other millionaires are on queue preparing to undertake similar adventures. The believers’ heaven is not just a holiday destination for a few days for those few who can pay for it; it is a home prepared by God Himself for all who are redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. This is the fact you need to ponder over as we stand on the threshold of this New Year. What John the beloved described in the entire book of Revelation and in today’s text in particular is simply too wonderful for the human mind to comprehend. He saw the passing away of the entire world as we know it now with the elements (the planets and stars) all melting with a fervent heat and their replacement with a new creation far more glorious in splendour and beauty than the former. The New Jerusalem will be incomparable with any other city here on earth. The greatest attraction in heaven remains the opportunity to see and dwell with God. He is the one to relieve the saints of the unalterable limitations of the earthly life and exalt them to a new life where there will be no more death, sorrow, crying, pain nor tears. The irony of it all is that the rich and powerful, the celebrities and dignitaries in the world today who may be able to afford all kinds of holidays within and outside the globe right now cannot pay their way into the new Jerusalem except they repent and believe the gospel. No Russian Cosmonaut or American Astronaut can take you there; only faith in Christ’s sacrificial death and miraculous resurrection can. It’s a brand new sphere uniquely branded for new creatures in Christ.
