Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo: The Governor Cross River Needs In Nigeria as a whole and in Cross River State in particular, there is an increasing awareness and demand for quality leadership and good governance spanning all three tiers of government. This has become necessary due to the need for development cutting across various communities and villages of the State. Cross River, a State with a land mass of 23,074 kilometre square, covered by a body of waters with about two-third of the State covered by tropical rain forests, making the land very fertile and one of the world’s bio-diversity hotspots with abundant resources for exploitation, no doubt needs a visionary and imaginative leader to translate all these into a wealth generation and redistribution assets. Cross River no doubt is blessed with abundant Human capital and Natural resources, and unarguably home to some of Nigeria’s most beautiful scenery. However, the State’s tourism potential is in need of development, for enhanced internally generated revenue, employment creation, socio economic and infrastructural development. There is also no doubt that, it is a herculean task to pilot the affairs of a State like Cross River, however, the sterling administrative and leadership qualities needed to steer the ship of governance is imbued not only in the positions held, awards and achievements bagged, but in the value for meaningful life such past or present positions have guaranteed, through purposeful impact. In entrusting the mandate of the people, the virtues of honour, values, integrity and dedication cannot be seen as unattainable moral principles. These qualities are now more than ever, what is demanded from any aspirant, because it is time to bring about an organized government in light of the challenges of building Cross River beyond Oil, to enhance quality of life, infrastructural and human capital development. There are a very few of the whole lot jostling for the number one position in Cross River State, who have consistently served the interest of the people and have also consistently shown keen interest in enhancing the quality of life and human capital development of the State. One of these individuals, who have the virtues of honour, values, integrity and dedication, is one we need as our next governor in Cross River state. Presently, almost every street and major roads in Cross River State are covered with posters and imposing bill boards of both genuine aspirants and those who are out to trade. Hence, the Citizens Mandate Network which has a growing membership network spanning through various clans, villages, communities, towns and local government areas in the State, with a present membership of over 37, 875 valid voters (and still growing rapidly), registered within the state, have embarked on sensitization of electorates in every remote part of the state, to protect their mandate, first by ensuring it is given based on merit to a transformational leader with infrastructural and human capital development as priority for enhanced standard-of-living of Cross Riverians. What do we seek? We are not merely seeking a Government for the implementation of agendas and policies, but one proven track record of visionary leadership and moral uprightness. The next Governor Cross River State needs, is - A well-focused resource manager who has the interest of the State at heart; - A man who is administratively skilful; who will deliver, drive productivity and growth, - A man who will uphold the values of communal harmony and make government presence felt in every rural part of the State. - A man with strong commitment to the principles of equity - A man with an all-inclusive Cross River Agenda/Manifesto that will address the core challenges of Cross River State - A man with an appreciable network to the grassroot, where impact of governance can be felt by all in the State - A man with a well-structured, sustainable development agenda which will usher in improved quality of life for all Cross Riverians - A man who will set his/her priorities straight in terms of creating enabling environment for investment, social amenities like healthcare, schools, water and others meant for the comfort of the Indigenes. - A man who will focus a little beyond provision of access roads traversing communities without immediate economic benefits to such communities, to developing integrated economic activities such as agricultural value chain, industrialization and hospitality. - A man who will prioritize economic empowerments beyond sharing of money, but based on creation of a structured life-line skill empowerment scheme, supported by sustainable infrastructure for entrepreneurial growth and development Notable among the worthy few aspirants that have proven and earned the respect of many is Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, a visionary transformational leader, with extraordinary administrative and managerial acumen. Ntufam Fidelis Ugbo, has a proven record of success in administrative governance, economic planning and management, and has also been described as an epitome of transparency and values-based leadership.
