Numan Is Rising! The ever-fresh Dr. John Ngamsa, academic per excellence, will be reviewing my books (ALL FOR LOVE and NUMAN MY NUMAN) during the launching and public presentation on Saturday, 8th of November. Dr. John influenced me alot, in those early days, and helped me along on my way to becoming a writer. He spoke positive words into my life and stoked my interest in creative writing. I remember visiting him, back in the day when boys were dreaming and men were pursuing, in his place in 80 units in Yola. He had just graduated from the University and finished his service year freshly, but had not started working. He will bring down his guitar and strike up a tune or two. Then we will discuss life. His passion for success and excellence was evident in his talk. He walked the talk, as his success in life bears witness. I had a refreshing encounter with him this evening. When I got off the plane in Yola earlier today, my cousin, Wisdom J Shittu, and my foster brother, Memu (a young man from Koma that my mother has been responsible for for about a decade now) drove me into Yola to visit a number of people before taking me to Numan. The residence of Dr. John was one of the places I visited. Nobody was home. So I called him. We arranged to meet in Numan later in the evening. And we did. He took me around a modern studio facility he is building and equipping in Numan. It will be fitted for both Video and audio recording and production, and will be equipped with ultra-modern editing and mass reproduction gadgets. He spoke about his dream to eventually transform into a private FM station, dedicated to and transmitting from Numan. I was excited with what I saw and heard. Dr. John pointed to the fact that a generation ago, people came to Numan and drank life-changing waters from its fountain of education and civilization. Unfortunately we neglected the fountain and it fouled and dried up. Those who benefited from her, walked away and progressed ahead of her, not caring, in most cases, to turn back and enrich her. But I am excited with what is going on in Numan right now. There is a rebirth, a revival, a regrowth, that has started. It is small but sure. It is picking up momentum. Numan is getting regroomed and rebuilt. Her children are returning and investing in her. They seem to be saying If we do not love our land, who will love her for us? Its a patriotic call to duty and her sons and daughters are responding positively: slowly but steadily. Numan is rising. Come join the train of progress. Numan is on the March. Yes, We can!
