Number 1 for 1 week (6th Jan 2008) From In Rainbows, Radioheads fifth and, to date, final number 1 album. Actually a 2007 album, much was made at the time of how Radiohead released their first album away from the maniacal machinations of the EMI machine. It was released online, letting the public decide how much they felt like paying for the album. Which, Id assume, most people took as a green light to say Hey, Radioheads new album is free!. Its questionable whether Radiohead saw any financial benefit, but it was a canny marketing move, and it did help public awareness for crusty old deans like myself, who waited for the physical release, and sent it to number 1. All in all, it was the best record from the band since Kid A, branching out a bit more with their arrangements, whilst also making the lyrics a lot less esoteric. The best album of 2007, all told, and probably the last absolute all-time great that the band have recorded to date. youtube/watch?v=rOoCixFA8OI
