Number of flood victims now more than 1,000 in Manjung: IPOH, Oct 22 — The number of flood victims in the district of Manjung rose to more than 1,000 people as rain continued until this morning. A spokesman of the Civil Defence Department in Manjung said 1,055 victims were accommodated at the Tebuk Yan Community Hall, Dewan Taman Bintang, Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Batu and Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai. “The number of evacuees at the Sekolah Kebangasaan Sungai Batu rose to 670 compared with 570 victims yesterday. At the Tebuk Yan Community Hall, the number of victims rose to 78,” he said when contacted by Bernama today. He said continuous rain also resulted in the number of victims at the flood evacuation centre at the Sekolah Agama Rakyat Padang Serai increasing to 104 while the number of victims at the Dewan Taman Bintang was 203. He said the water level at Sungai Batu was 1.5 metres, in Kampung Tebuk Yan 1 metre, and Padang Serai 1.6 metres. Residents in Taman Bintang Kampung Ujung Pasir, Kampung Pantai Tin, Taman Pantai Wang, Kampung Tebuk Yan, Parit Marikan and Batu 13 Segari had been evacuated.
