Number of unemployed youth swells from 106130 in 2008 to 307827 in 2013 Aaqib Javeed Srinagar: At a time when the state is facing huge unemployment crisis the fresh pass outs of various universities are finding it to even survive. Students of various departments of University of Kashmir who have almost completed their fourth semester exams are extremely concerned about their future, which according to them is bleak. A group of job aspirants while talking to Precious Kashmir said: “Even the initiatives taken by the central government to tackle unemployment in the state by launching schemes like Udaan and Himayat a few years ago have failed to take off in Kashmir.” “It takes almost eight years for a student from class 10th to complete the Post Graduation. I am uncertain of getting a secure job after spending thousands of rupees on studies during these years,” said Umar bin Farooq, a student of MA Linguistics at University of Kashmir. A group of students from Central University of Kashmir castigated state government’s new recruitment policy. “According to the new recruitment policy, the candidates would be given a meager amount of Rs 3000 in first two years and Rs 5000 for next three years. How can it be sufficient for us when the inflation is at its peak,” they said. “Six months have passed since I completed my degree. There is no private sector in the state where one can get a job which satisfies the aspirant. I am struggling to find a suitable job despite having enough skills,” said M A Convergent Journalism Pass out of batch 2011. Pertinently, In the Economic Survey Report for 2013-2014, the state witnessed the upsurge in a number of registered job seekers registering themselves with the government-run employment exchanges over the last five years. “At the state level, the number of registered job seekers has increased from 106130 in 2008 to 307827 in 2013, thereby registering an increase of 190 percent,” the report said. preciouskashmir/kashmir-has-no-jobs-for-fresh-pass-outs/
