Numbers 14:1-10 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) 14 At this all the people of Isra’el cried out in dismay and wept all night long. 2 Moreover, all the people of Isra’el began grumbling against Moshe and Aharon; the whole community told them, “We wish we had died in the land of Egypt! or that we had died here in the desert! 3 Why is Adonai bringing us to this land, where we will die by the sword? Our wives and our little ones will be taken as booty! Wouldn’t it be better for us to return to Egypt?” 4 And they said to each other, “Let’s appoint a leader and return to Egypt!” 5 Moshe and Aharon fell on their faces before the entire assembled community of the people of Isra’el. 6 Y’hoshua the son of Nun and Kalev the son of Y’funeh, from the detachment that had reconnoitered the land, tore their clothes 7 and said to the whole community of Isra’el, “The land we passed through in order to spy it out is an outstandingly good land! (iii) 8 If Adonai is pleased with us, then he will bring us into this land and give it to us — a land flowing with milk and honey. 9 Just don’t rebel against Adonai. And don’t be afraid of the people living in the land — we’ll eat them up! Their defense has been taken away from them, and Adonai is with us! Don’t be afraid of them!” 10 But just as the whole community were saying they should be stoned to death, the glory of Adonai appeared in the tent of meeting to all the people of Isra’el. These are my thoughts, please share yours. 1 The people were taken out of bondage and God met their needs but they still complained. 2 They started to blame Moses and Aaron those that were called by God to lead them. Often times we do not see what God has done for us but see the things we are doing without. 3 Because of where the Lord has brought them they forget where the lord has brought them from. They did not see that they had it better than they did in Egypt and just as God took them out of the land of Egypt He was going to take them in this land if they had the faith in Him. 4 They were going to return to Egypt and forget all of God’s promises. God told Abraham that his sons would have to be in bondage for 400 years before they took the land He had promised them. Often times we are not willing to trust God to fulfill His promises or to wait on Him. We see that things are hard and we want to turn around. Moses was not appointed by man but was chosen by God. If they chose a man he would not been able to help them as Moses could by the Lord’s power. It is possible since many Egyptians died in the Red Sea that Pharaoh would kill some of the Israelites if they ever returned to seek revenge. If they returned things would be far worst than ever before. 5 They went to pray to God. They found this to be important enough to stop everything to talk to God about or problems. It is possible that we are unable to be able to do things when we are troubled until we come to the Lord. Moses and Aaron were so deeply depressed that they needed to pray over their problems. 6 Joshua and Caleb made it into the promise land because of their faith all the other men would die out in the wilderness including Moses who died on a mountain looking at the Promised Land and Aaron. Joshua and Caleb knew the Lord could take them into the land as He had promised. 7 They knew the land could great for their needs and the Lord would meet their needs in this land. This land was far better than Egypt. 8 They knew they had to please God in order to receive the land. Only Caleb and Joshua pleased the Lord with their actions and this is why everyone else would die in the wilderness. In the times of the Old Testament things go well while they serve the Lord but when they don’t things go bad as punishment. Today we are to find favor with God and our reward will be given in heaven where it can never be done away with. 9 We should not let things of the world and troubles keep us from serving the Lord. Being a believer in this world will only get harder and harder as the world gets further away from the truth and more into the flesh. 10 The community wanted to kill them for wanting to keep following the Lord. The men hate the truth and often want to destroy those who teach the truth. It has been said the truth hurts. Jesus was killed for preaching the truth. The prophets were killed for preaching the truth. Disciples were killed for following after the truth even in today’s time.
