Nurses My super heros have long been nurses. My sister, my niece - TopicsExpress

Nurses My super heros have long been nurses. My sister, my niece and her husband, a neighbor and a close friend, all who could have had any other career chose nursing. Nurses are the first line of defense, they do the things the rest of us find repulsive and nauseating! And for the most part they do it with a smile. Now that you know how I feel lets consider the reality of the Ebola outbreaks. It is currently sitting at 60 to 90% survival rate that, IF you believe the source (Galveston National Laboratory ) or the (World Health Organization) which shows the first symptoms at 7 to 9 days and death at 12. During that short period many things happen. And entire section or floor has to be sterlized, including all the floors, wall, ceilings and equipment. The normal vacuum lines and oxygen lines and the possible cross contamination have to be considered. The contamination of friends, relatives or anyone associated with the patient have to be isolated. All of the above, and much I have not mentioned, including the patient having to wait somewhere in a sterile environment thus creating a causes and effect situation. Here is the rub! America sends millions if not billions to foreign countries. Its time for congress to rethink sending money oversea and reallocate a few billion for our hospitals, our nurses, doctors and the staff who work in contaminated areas deserve to be compensated. Think of it like this when was the last time you put your life on the line for your job. Nurses are the first line of defense and should make at the very least what a freshman in congress makes. Congress should reach into that perverbial pot of unlimited money and dedicate a few billion to our hospitals and our nurses, which would ultimately protect ourselves. Duncan
