Nutrition Values of Milk We all know the popular commercials that say we should get milk, but do you know why? It’s because milk is packed with minerals and macronutrients that help our bodies grow and continually repair themselves! The nutritional value of milk is as a great source of protein and other necessary nutrients like carbohydrates (sugars), fat, calcium and potassium. Protein helps our bodies build, strengthen and repair muscles. Carbohydrates provide energy to muscles and organs like the lungs and brain. Fats are required for lubrication, “oil” for joints and skin, and to prevent arthritis and premature aging. Depending on your health situation, you can limit fat intake by using skim (0% fat), 1%, 2% or whole (4%) milk products. Calcium builds strong bones and teeth, and helps prevent osteoporosis (loss of bone density), and is necessary for a body to manufacture Vitamin D. Potassium is an electrolyte, necessary to keep acid from exhausting your muscles. All in all, milk does “[do] a body good”!
